Many new alpaca owners are
curious about the birthing process and what to expect. While
there will be variations in timing there are essentially
3 stages to the process. Please note we are just providing
an outline with pictures, and you should consult your ranch
and/or veterinarian for more information.
If you get a chance, Dr
LaRue Johnson holds an excellent Neonatal Clinic at the
national AOBA show, including a lot of valuable hands on
experience.
The pictures in the birthing
section are quite explicit, and include fairly close up
views of Alpaca reproductive organs. The crias in both the
cases represented were born healthy and are happy residents
of our ranch.
